Thesis. The Observer-Dependent Theory of Everything (ODTOE) is not a metaphor about consciousness shaping reality — it is a formal framework in which physical reality is the configuration produced by an observer applying an operator to a state: R = Ô(Ψ). Everything else — wavefunction collapse, spacetime curvature, the arrow of time, even thermodynamic entropy — falls out as a configuration of this single relation.
The one axiom
ODTOE has exactly one axiom: the observer constitutes the observed. That single sentence carries the full weight of the framework. It is not the claim that reality is "in your head," nor the claim that nothing exists without a conscious mind. It is the more precise claim that every empirical statement is indexed to an observer with a specific cognitive coherence, and that ignoring this index produces the paradoxes physics has been wrestling with for a hundred years.
Three required participants
Every ODTOE configuration has three slots that must be filled:
- The observer O — a coherence-bearing entity (human, instrument, AI agent, collective).
- The state Ψ — a representation of the pre-configured potential.
- The operator Ô — the act of observation itself, which is the operator that resolves Ψ into a specific R.
If any of the three is missing, you do not have a configuration — you have an abstraction. This is why ODTOE is observer-dependent in a strict and testable sense, not in a fuzzy phenomenological sense.
Belief as a measurable quantity
The most counterintuitive move ODTOE makes is treating belief as a measurable quantity rather than a subjective state. The cognitive coherence formula B(O, C) = F^w1 · E^w2 · (1 − σ)^w3 · Λ^w4 takes four operationalizable components — attentional focus F, emotional coherence E, internal contradiction σ, and empirical reinforcement Λ — and produces a number that predicts the stability of the observer's configurations under interaction.
This is what turns the framework from philosophy into something a physicist or a systems engineer can actually use.
What this buys you
If you accept the single axiom, you get for free:
- A unified picture of quantum mechanics, general relativity, string theory, loop quantum gravity, and QBism as configurations in one space, ranked by coherence S and observer dimensionality d.
- A non-mystical explanation of the measurement problem: collapse is the resolution of Ψ by Ô, not a magical wavefunction reduction.
- An account of why thermodynamic time has a direction: lower-coherence observers see higher entropy, and the arrow of time is the coherence gradient.
- A bridge to consciousness studies, multi-agent AI, and the social sciences via the B(O, C) formula.
